Activity Description

This overview of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) disease state continuing education for pharmacy technicians covers a variety of topics related to treatment of CF. Topics include an overview of CF prevalence, risk factors, symptoms, and mechanism of disease; goals of therapy and prognosis of CF; current treatment options for CF; examples of workflow processes for CF technicians; programs to reduce medication copay; information on prior authorizations; and guidance for expanding the role of the pharmacy technician. The presentation is pertinent to Specialty Technicians, CF Clinic Liaisons, and other technicians seeking education on CF.

Learning Objectives

The target audience for this activity includes pharmacy technicians. Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the presentation, prevalence, and risk factors for Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
  • Describe the goals of therapy and prognosis of CF.
  • Outline current treatment options for CF.
  • Explain the important workflow processes to consider when dispensing medications to treat CF.
